Description

The overall objective of the project is: promoting the preservation and maintenance of the existing natural resources in urban and protected areas for ensuring of sustainable social and economic development in the cross-border region Kyustendil-Surdulica. Specific objectives are: protection of the natural resources in the cross-border region Kyustendil-Surdulica and conversion of the unused potential into resources providing economic and social benefits to local border communities; recovery of “Lakes” eco-park in Kyustendil through rehabilitation and reconstruction of adjacent water area and construction of environmentally friendly exhibition areas for educational purpose. The main target group of the project is 5000 children and young people on both sides of the border. During the project, a number of direct observations are made by children in nature, which is also related to education for an environmentally friendly and active way of life. Most people do not know protected areas, plants, and animals and often destroy them without cause. Therefore, the aim is to raise awareness and to ensure that children and young people are directly involved with nature through activities related to the study and conservation of biodiversity and endangered species in the region and the creation of a prerequisite for sustainable development in this area. With the recovery of the Eco-Park “Lakes”, one of the favourite places in Kyustendil has been put into operation for outdoor sports - especially in terms of boating.
